About Us

Mackellar ExcavationsBruce MacKellar started MacKellar Excavations in September 1985. At this time the business was based in the Boggabri and Harparary areas and focussed on maintenance and construction work on irrigation properties. Major projects handled at that time by MacKellar Excavations included being a contractor involved with the development of the South Pacific Agricultural Company properties located at Boggabri.

In October 2008 Brendon MacKellar (Bruce's son) left Sydney to return to Gunnedah to join the company & bring with him extensive financial management skills from a successful career in share trading.

Together Bruce and Brendon have extended the company to be involved in Rail, Mining and Civil projects and have worked with John Holland, Leighton’s Holdings, Whitehaven Coal, Boggabri Coal (Idemitsu), Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), UGL Global, BDM, Westconnex M5, Martinus Rail, Daracon, Downer, Goldsprings and local landholders.

In 2011 Bruce & Brendon commenced Gunnedah Quarry Products; a blue metal quarry located at Mary’s Mount south west of Gunnedah. The quarry produces a large range of construction aggregates including railway ballast, road base, gabion rock and stemming; a product supplied to the local mines and used in the blasting process.

MacKellar Excavations & Gunnedah Quarry Products proudly employs a staff of over 25 from the local Gunnedah community and is continuously developing further projects allowing for company expansion and extended employment opportunities.
